Party Time

You know what makes me smile every time? Party hats.

Everyone should wear a party hat from time to time. There's no reason. Just wear one around the office and everyone will have a good laugh. If anyone asks, just tell them you're celebrating happiness.

Everyone loves party hats. You can decorate one to be extra fancy too.

Wear a party hat today!

In Millennium Park, there stands some Chinese modern art. I was only interested in this one because it is a dinosaur and I am actually a seven year old boy who loves dinosaurs.

The Internet is Awesome: English Russia

Many people waste their lives away while browsing the internet. Wikipedia drawls you into a spiral of endless knowledge. Livejournal showcases the best train wrecks. Something Awful is always funny to me. And 4chan/encyclopedia dramatica, well, you want to look away but you just can't.

The best place to waste your lunch break? English Russia.

Being an American born during the cold war, my knowledge of Russia was fairly limited. Thanks to this (rather engrishy) website, I learn more about modern day life in Russian life than anyone needs to know. English Russia shows you that in a country so large, there's always something interesting happening.

Did you know that there is a Russian Harry Potter knock off? Look at the cover! Harry Potter never rode a motorcycle with a mechanical owl. I can't read Russian but I know for a fact that Tanya Grotter is a far superior book because of that cover alone.

One article shows a sad photo shoot from Dior. Models were dressed up and paraded around Moscow in the finest western clothes. The Russian women stop and stare in awe of dresses that is very much in contrast their own.

They have anime conventions and cosplay in Russia too. Most of it is just as bizarre and bad as its western counterpart.

You Only Wish You Were This Awesome - Joseph Ducreux

At some point in our life, we like to think of ourselves as being awesome. Not awesome in that "filling with awe" sort of way, but the "I'm the coolest baddest mother-effing human being" kind of awesome.

Well, we will never be the most awesome person on the planet because Batman has already been invented. But there are several real people we can look up to as an inspiration for awesome.

One of those people is Joseph Ducreux.

Pimping Pose by an awesome dude

According to Wikipedia, Joseph Ducreux was French portrait painter, pastelist, miniaturist, and engraver. He painted portraits for Marie Antoinette, King Louis XVI and other famous people but those all pale in comparison to his famous self portraits done in the 1780s.

Ducreux was trying to break free from the stiff limitations of portraiture and engage in real expression, wether it be an alarmed face asking for silence, being in the middle of a yawn, or guffawing at the audience in a very pimp-esque pose. Two centuries ago, he painted himself to be what would become known as humorous image macros, but without the obnoxious text, obviously.

You can only wish you were as awesome as this guy.

(More serious biographical information that is not Wikipedia.)
