I haven't had much of a chance to take good outfit photos lately. However I found a couple from over a year ago that I'd like to share. One is an example of a bad outfit and the other is pretty good.
Fashion bloggers don't post pictures of themselves in badly put together outfits, so I might as well share my mistake.
This one is bad. Note my odd expression. The cardigan and dress are two baggy items that make me look very boxy. The leopard printed tights make it appear as if I have a skin disease. The shoes don't match anything. Failure all around. The end.
A better outfit except that my shoes are untied for some reason.
I love these shoes. They are my tallest heels, save for my giant leopard print platforms. They transform my pedo-tastic schoolgirl dress and make me look more sophisticated, more adult. Plus these shoes give me mile long legs. As in my legs are so long that people accuse me of walking on stilts.

Outfit download: The rest of November
The patterned tights reappear! And unfortunately, this experiment went array. While patterned tights look adorable on my calves, they are less opaque on thighs. Well, live and learn to check that sort of thing in the mirror!
I love this blazer. Know why I bought it? It reminded me of the jacket the wizard father in "Ponyo" wears. Yes, I am dressing like an anime character. You can't get much nerdier than that.

I bought a sweater on Black Friday. Ok, it was at 6PM and the store was nearly empty, but hey, I actually went out on Black Friday. Didn't even have to murder a housewife to get the sweater either.
Also check out my space cowboy boots. Even after a year, I can't decide if they are awesome or dumb or both but I continually wear them. I like to feel like I'm a futuristic astronautical babe.
Do you know how often you can wear a sequined miniskirt? Turns out you can wear it all the time. This little skirt is one of the few good things I've found in Forever21. It's cute and sexy, isn't too sexy, goes with everything, and best of all? It's SPARKLY!

Outfit Round up for Nov. 16, 17, and 19
Alright, time for one big outfit post.
I am a planning type of person. I lay out my clothes the night before. Some days that doesn't work out so well. Some days I can't stop fidgeting with my clothes. I amke up an outfit, decided I dont' like some piece, switch it out something else, realize now things don't go, and I end up wearing something entirely different than I originally planning. It was one of those days.
This dress has a funny little story.
Years ago, I was the biggest tomyboy you can imagine. All oversize t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jeans three sizes too large. My father occasionally nagged that I should dress better. One day at Target, my father had a fit about this. He grabbed a dress from a nearby rack and said, "Here! Take this!" I tried it on to make sure it fit and suddenly it was in my closet for years without having been worn.
Now that I enjoy wearing dresses, I put it on and discovered that it was a badly made dress from Target which is just as surprising as Lady Gaga not wearing pants. Fortunately I prayed to the sewing gods and removed the horrible belt it came with. Would you look at that? I almost look like I know what I'm doing!
Being a teacher means I tend to dress a bit awkwardly. I hate the standard outfit of a cardigan + khakis + sneakers, so I try to vary it up. At least the students remember me. However, I have to be careful of two things: comfortable shoes and necklines. Comfortable shoes are necessary because I'm only my feet all day. As for necklines, that's pretty straight forward, especially if you're working with teenagers.

Outfits for Nov. 5 and Nov. 11
Once again I have a lazing around the house outfit.
I am hesitant to posts lazy day outfits but I want to show people that it's ok to have lazy days. But it's possible to look and feel good on those lazy days. It's eays to throw on sweatpants or stay in your PJs all day, but I find that I feel sleepy all day, as if I never really woke up. Putting on good clothes, even on housebound sick days, makes me feel more focused and away.
When I'm not schlubbing it in a cozy sweatshirt and leggings, I'm digging some new trends. Specifically, I'm digging those sequins which are now super popular. I can't tell if they are going to be in style for the next year or if they are just in style for the Christmas season. It's hard to tell because glittery shiny things get extra attention right before Christmas. Either way, I'm going to be Liberace-ing things up for a while. I won't get a BeDazzler, I promise.
Aww, the Piano Belt. Piano Belt was one of my signature items while I was in college. See, one day I wore it in front of all of my friends, as we lazily sprawled across stolen chairs in the common area.
"That's a really cool belt!" my friends said.
One particular friend spoke up, "It would be even cooler if it actually played like a piano. Then you could play a theme song every time you enter a room."
Ever since then I have not only wished my belt was capable of making music, I also have been working on a theme song. I could just settle on Star War's "The Imperial March" for dramatic effect but I want to be original. Every wanna-be evil person with a pair of speakers can play "The Imperial March".

While black is my staple, I'm not a black and white minimalist. Color is my game. I don't experiment with texture or patterns like the lovely Queen Michelle. But I gave it a shot today.
From the front, delicate school girl...
And from the side...
Awesome tights and heels.
The two tone tights got reactions from a few people. My family and friends were surprised when I turned around and said it was such a brilliant idea. (Thanks Chanel for inspiring knock offs!) They are surprisingly thick and sturdy. Bonus? They're reversible.
These heels are a great twist on the regular black Mary Jane. Just high enough to make me look good and not high enough to feel like Chinese foot binding. Great compromise.

Outfit for Oct. 20 + Pumpkin time!
I haven't posted many outfits lately because I've been gainfully employed as a substitute teacher. Horrah.
I finally carved a pumpkin. Unfortunately I fucked up and drew the guidelines directly on the pumpkin rather than on a piece of paper. Oh well. My cat jack 'o' lantern turned out pretty cute.
Since I carved a pumpkin, that means...

Outfit for Sept. 23
If I weren't such a raging workaholic feminist, I'd be a 50's housewife just for the stereotypical clothes. Plus I like cleaning. Hate cooking though.
I usually don't like too sweet. As in previous outfits, I like to toughen up feminine outfits with these sandals or boots. Can't be too sweet and girly. God forbid. The world may end.

Outfit for Sept. 20
I love autumn. I really can't wait for it to stop being 75+ and muggy all the damn time. Time for muted colors, Halloween oranges, and boots. Away with the strappy tank tops, the strappy heels, and the strappy... I'm out of straps.

Outfit for September 3rd and 4th
Oh man, I had a couple good outfits and promptly forgot where I placed my camera. I'm so cool that way.
I'm a big fan of Questionable Content. I love Hannelore even if she is psychological impossible of having a torrid lesbians affair with me. Whenever this shirt makes a public appearance, I run into someone who says, "OH EM GEE I love Questionable Content!" And I say "Me too!" Then we stand there awkwardly, having run the gambit of conversational topics we have in common.

Outfit for August 28 + The Venture Brothers trailer
Everyone has lazy days where they wear ratty t-shirts and PJ pants. Anyone who claims they don't is lying or they are possible a vampire/scientologist. But I feel lazy and still sleepy if I don't put on proper fitting clothing. So for those comfy days, I made a go to uniform.

Well fitting sweatpants make a huge difference in how I feel on home bound days. Plus I made a cape with a sequined scarf and a brooch. Very cool and supervillian-y.

My friends and family decided I look like a cross between Audrey Hepburn and Molotov Cocktease on her days off. That's silly. We already know what Molotov's civilian clothes are.

I got my hair did-ed in the first time in two years. In the past, hair dressers have been universally terrible, either doing a decent job but being a terrible human being or being a pleasant person yet making my hair look awful.
I lucked out. A lovely girl not only made me tea while waiting for my hair dye to finish, but she also wrapped my glasses in plastic so I could read instead of staring blankly into fuzzy space for thirty minutes. She chopped off a good portion of the tangly bits at the ends of my hair and dyed it a lovely natural dark red. What an awesome day.

Honestly, I'm not as gloomy as I appear in the above photo.
It was an animal print day. Not only do I have a leopard print scarf and wedge sandals, but not shown is my tiger print Betsy Johnson purse that causes all women to become lesbians and erotically assault me. I honestly don't mind but I won't bring that purse to church anymore.
it's really hard to take a picture of your own feet
I love these wedges and I love this nail polish. These shoes put me above 6 feet and possibly scream, "I am a transvestite!" which isn't helped by the scarf across my adam's apple. Who cares. They are tall and surprisingly comfortable and that's what matters in my book.

Not even kidding. This dog does follow me everywhere.
I am embarrassed at how much stuff from target I own. At first I wasn't sure what caused it but then it hit me: College happened, that's what.

My father got married and I helped my stepmother move into our house.
Hells yeah, it's 250 feet of bubble wrap! Every single foot was used. If you can't tell, my stepmother has a lot of breakable thing, like china plates and glass statues.

Daily Outfit 7-28-2009
It was raining today so I took my photo inside. You can see the interesting way my father has decorated the house, as evidenced by the multicolored walls. For a man who is partially colorblind, he is remarkably talented at interior decorating.
What a glamorous busy day. Got to sleep in, got dressed up for a date with Lanna, got to eat mushrooms, and did girly shopping for make up for SEVERAL HOURS.
Lanna and I went to Sephora. Previously I had avoided the store because I associated it with its obnoxious product placement (which I hate) in Cloverfield (which was terrible). In the end, Lanna and I braved a thunderstorm and got into the store.
You know when you were little, you played with your mother's make up while trying on her clothes? That was basically what happened. We tried on everything and played with at least 100 products. Lanna even decided to paint her nails under the guise of testing the chip proof claim.
One sales lady help me find the perfect foundation (Smashbox HD foundation in the palest color they had) when before I've never been keen on wearing foundation. She even gave me a good sized sample to try it out for a couple days.
It is very strange to have a strangre touch your face. That is a very intimate space after all. The saleslady was showing me how to put on foundation and I was flinching and laughing because it tickled. She laughed and said I was a very funny girl. If I had a dime for every time I heard that, I could earn some serious compound interest.

Daily Outfit - 7-24-2009
I genuinely enjoy my silver flats. They make me feel like a sparkly ballerina, except about 7 inches taller and many pounds heavier. However lovely, the flats weren't particularly comfortable the last time I wore them because one of the ankle straps rubbed against my skin uncomfortably. Lo and behold, God blessed the world with tights and other assortments of hosiery that help keep blisters at bay. The down side is that creepy fetishists keep favoriting my pictures on Flickr.

Dailly outfit for July 20 + Bowling with Buddies
I love a certain gray dress. It is soft and breezy, perfect for doing chores around the house in the summer. I never thought of it as glamorous or interesting enough to warrant making a good outfit of it. But in its simplicity is potential to create different looks.
Gold metal headband - thrifted
Dress - Kolh's/derek heart
Bracelets - Target
Leggings - Betsey Johnson
Silver flats - Payless

These shoes were fairly comfortable but they had an unexpected problem: potential for blindness. They are a mirror silver which reflects light. Unfortunately, it happened to be a sunny day and I looked down. Ow. Sunlight reflected directly into my eyes by my own shoes. I was betrayed.
But I did more than just dress up and putz around the house like any other unemployed kid with a degree. I went bowling with two good friends, Dying Dan and Lanna.
Bowling is the best game to play with friends. It's a silly concept - throwing heavy balls on the floor to hit pins - so no one takes it too seriously. No one feels bad if they are terrible at bowling. I know I don't. Plus you can take your time and chat with buddies between turns. You can make a thousand testicle jokes. You can drink overpriced bad beer if you really want. But mostly, it's a game where you can be stupid around your friends and that is the best kind of sport.
